First off–Happy New Year to all my Hawaii personal training clients, personal training email list, and blog readers.  I hope your 2008 was as great as mine and that your 2009 is even better.

Time goes by so fast!

How are you going to make 2009 the best year you’ve ever had?

Keep reading. I’m going to help you out with this one.

People often complain about time going by so fast and then at New Year’s we actually celebrate it’s passage. Weird, huh?

For many of us, the last moments of 2008 were spent examining our thoughts and feelings.

I hope you were sober enough to remember it.

At some point, our introspection transforms into thoughts of self improvement and bettering our lives.

That’s a good thing.

Somewhere near the end of these thoughts begins the annual tradition of making resolutions for the New Year.

Life is just too short to not feel awesome and live at your full potential.

What does a New  Year’s resolution mean to you?

Here’s a couple definitions of the word “resolution” from

  1. The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination
  2. A course of action determined or decided on

Very interesting. “Firm determination. A course of action determined or decided on”

Since this is my personal training blog and you are reading this, I’ll assume your goal and possibly your New Year’s resolution has to do with improving your physical well being and level of fitness.

If you have a goal to improve your appearance, to lose body fat, to lose weight, tone up, shape up, or whatever it is you want to call it, I’m going to tell you about something that you MUST have in order to reach your goal.

It’s not an exercise.

It’s not a diet.

It’s not a supplement.

It’s not a product.

It’s not my personal training services.

It’s a simple thing, but so many people skip right over it. It’s no wonder these people never reach their goals.

If you don’t have this, chances are you’ll be making another empty promise to yourself at the same time next year.

What is this thing I’m talking about?

A burning desire.

Turn your want into a burning desire.

Light the fire inside yourself.

Become obsessed with reaching your goals (obsessed in a healthy way of course ;)).

It’s not enough to just want it.

It’s not enough to really want it.

When you have a genuine burning desire to achieve something, you are much more likely to get it then someone that just “wants it”, or that thinks that “it would be nice to have”.

When you have a burning desire, you won’t wait and watch things happen, you will make things happen.

When you have a burning desire, you will stop making excuses, and you will find a way.

When you have a burning desire, you won’t sit in front of the TV for 2+ hours a day, you will manage your time and energy more efficiently.

When you have a burning desire, you will do whatever is necessary to achieve your goals.

Be Your Best in 2009,
